Zhangjiajie: the land of Avatar

The ground breaking visual effect of Avatar is impressive indeed: floating mountains, spectacular pillars, grotesque peaks, ravines, gorges, streams, pools and waterfalls. Many associate the landscape to Zhangjiajie. Zhangjiajie is part of the Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic site, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992. It is home to a number of endangered plant and animal species. The entire site comprises of three connecting attractions: Zhangjiajie Forest Park, Tianzishan Nature Reserve and Suoxiyu Landscape.

Highlights of Zhangjiajie are:
• Bailong Elevator is. At the height of 326m, it is the world’s tallest outdoor elevator.
• Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. This skywalk bridge is suspended about 300m above the ground – a breathtaking experience indeed.
• Huangshizhai: a natural platform at 1080m high, offering a panoramic view of Zhangjiajie.
Of course, the incredibly surreal sceneries are just breathtaking.
